As the pandemic continues to slowly become less of a threat over time, many homeowners are still taking inventory of what they can do to improve their life with lots of time at home — which for many is their new office as well! Let’s take a look at what Hal has done to resolve the age-old issue: getting rid of the rust (and crayon marks!) that surround us in our homes.

Hal (aka Me): “I’m with you. How can I help you today?”

Customer: “Hal…I finally am getting to my list of household stuff that I meant to do, but I’ve got two major issues in my house: Kids with crayons…and lots of rust on my cookware. I’m just looking for an inexpensive solution to removing the kids' crayon marks on the walls and a cheap way to clean these pans without going on Amazon and spending a small fortune on cleaning products. Please tell me there’s a hack out there that can save me some cash!

Hal: “I am all over this for you. Give me a minute to search for a less expensive way to solve those issues for you. (After a few minutes…) OK. I think we have one solution to all of those problems. And I have a strong feeling you have the solution in the house already, which will save you an Amazon order or a trip to the store.

Customer: “OK! Sounds good. What do you have for me?”

Hal: “Are you ready? It’s good ol’ fashioned toothpaste!”

Customer: “Get outta here.”

Hal: “For real! Apply a healthy amount to a microfiber or common cloth and the crayon marks will disappear off of those walls. Make sure to give it a little elbow grease when you wipe the walls with the toothpaste and ‘poof!’ 💨.. the crayon marks will be no more!”

Customer: “One down. How about the rust on the pans. I’m warning you, Hal. These are pretty heavy rust stains we’re talking about, so this is no small job.”

Hal: “Not to worry! Again, go heavy on the amount of toothpaste you apply to the rust areas — about the size of a silver dollar — and start scrubbing in a circular motion. Depending on the amount of rust, you may need a second round of toothpaste, but it has remarkable properties as a cleaning agent. Rinse with water and you are back to that shine once again. And this will work on rust inside the pan or on the bottom where stains and burn marks can discolor the pan. That should cover it.”

Customer: “Hal, you are worth your weight in gold on this one! I guess I got a ‘two-fer’ with this idea, huh? Lol 🤣

Hal: “You def did on this session! Glad we could save you money and time without you having to head to the store or spend more money than need be when the best cleaning agent is sitting in all your bathrooms around your house already!”
